Award-Winning Impactainment Companies Partner to Bring

Best-Selling Book, The Cornell Effect, to the Big Screen

APRIL 18, 2022, TAMPA, FL & LOS ANGELES, CA – Greyhouse Films and Beam In Studios announced today that they have forged a co-production partnership to bring the best-selling book, The Cornell Effect, to screens worldwide. The book climbed to the top 5 on Amazon - Memoir: People With Disabilities category - and tells the true story of a bi-racial family in the 90’s faced with incredible odds.

This co-production comes on the heels of Beam In Studio’s subsidiary, The Shift, winning a Silver Award for The Shift Wellness Rally Los Angeles mental health pilot in the Inaugural Anthem Awards, brought by The Webby Awards, which shines a spotlight on social impact creators and content that has the power to spark global change.

We are committed to creating impactainment that inspires social change across the entertainment industry and the world,” says Nadia Sarmova, Chief Impactainment Officer at Beam In Studios and Producer of The Cornell Effect screen adaptation. “Elevating diverse voices that reflect the multicultural audiences we serve is an important step in democratizing Hollywood and expanding our capacity for cross-cultural understanding.”

“The best stories challenge audiences in profound ways leaving them heard, seen and validated that there are others that share their conflicts in life,” added Curtis Graham, Founder of Greyhouse Films and an award-winning Director of films including The Investigator, The Favorite and Erroyl Barrow - Freedom Fighter. “The Cornell Effect is filled with gut-wrenching drama and an awe-spiring way of viewing life that makes for a compelling story that must be told.”

The Cornell Effect book, authored by John C. Cranham, DDS, a renowned dentist and educator, tells the true story of a young couple’s efforts to start a family by fostering an African-American crack-baby named Cornell. Cornell arrived into the world in 1992 at 1 pound, 9 ounces, alone, drug dependent and three and a half months premature. Doctors had little hope for his survival, but through faith, love and family, Cornell surmounted a barrage of obstacles, defying all odds and leaving a lasting imprint on his community.

Cornell’s story won over the heart of the Voice of the Hokies, Jon Laaser, who invited Cornell Cranham to join the Virginia Tech football team home game sidelines to assist with the radio broadcasts last season. “It’s been a dream come true,” says Cornell.  Media outlets, including The Richmond Times Dispatch, CBN News, and NBC affiliate, 10News, have also reported on Cornell’s undeniable effect.

Some fans of the book are investing in the book-to-screen adaptation, proving their loyalty extends beyond readership. Graham and Sarmova are spearheading development with outreach to top Hollywood screenwriters underway.
